A BIT ABOUT JOHN HUNTER ACOUSTICS

Our Story

An Introduction

Hello, I am John Hunter and I am the owner and founder of John Hunter Acoustics. The passion and inspiration behind our company has been, and remains, to help create spaces where sound not only comes alive but where its true quality can be heard.

Most physical spaces are rarely suited, or designed, for good acoustics.

In fact, the opposite is true.

Most spaces actually degrade sound, producing muddy, conflicted and often unintelligible sound. Rooms absorb certain frequencies and amplify others. Problems such as reverb, echo and sound cancellation create an acoustic mess–or even swallow sound entirely. The result can be inaccurate, unintelligible or just plain “noise.”

My passion, and our job, is to transform acoustics so that the real, honest sound can be brought out with clarity and fidelity.

And this is not just for professional musicians, recording studios or performance spaces. Office and work zones can suffer from harsh noise, echo and acoustic chaos which not only makes work unpleasant but can cut into productivity.

Conference rooms, areas for client meetings or group training rooms can be transformed into calmer spaces where communications are easily and clearly heard.

We work in larger spaces such as church halls, restaurants and school rooms. Churches in particular often suffer from bad acoustics–which is tragic as their message to their community is often lost due to poor acoustics.

Well, enough about what we do, let’s say a word about who we are and where we came from.

It all started…

I began my journey as a dedicated and devoted musician. Sound and music have long been my life passion. I studied at the Berklee School of Music–one of our country’s best. Inevitably, I made my way to Los Angeles, like so many others, to pursue my passion as a musician.

Along this path, I met many other musicians, worked in various studios and made friends with a number of sound engineers.

One engineer in particular became a good friend and mentor. He worked on many big shows, such as “The Voice” and “Dancing with the Stars.” He is a real pro and without doubt he knows his stuff. It was as a result of this relationship that I began to build my own bass traps. (A bass trap is simply an acoustical panel that absorbs, or traps, bass sound waves)

I started small, working out of my studio apartment–which was quite a challenge as I had to turn my living space into a production space every day!

That was back in 2007, and within just 2 years demand for my custom sound panels grew so much that I had to expand into a storage/work space just to keep up with production. Then, within another 2 years, I had to actually buy a building and bring on a production staff.

From there it has just continued to grow and grow. Word of mouth amongst musicians, producers, sound engineers and businesses spread and the demand grew to the point that I have had to dramatically expand my production facilities.

Our delivery and installation have grown as well. We have moved beyond Los Angeles to sites as far as Northern California, Arizona and Nevada. We even sell our products for DIY installation to users across America.

But behind everything, I still remain a passionate musician and I believe that it is my love of sound and of music that has brought the quality to our products and to our installations.

I live sound and I live music, so it is my joy to bring that to my clients and customers as well.

Thank you and I look forward to bringing your acoustics to life.
